MEOW #150 Peck+Hepburn

This meta came into my mind fully-formed last night. I couldn't wait to construct it, so here I am supervising a year 7 German extra gridding away! This is not intended to be a very difficult meta: consider it an "amuse-bouche" for the brain (which would make it an "amuse-cerveau"!) The answer to the meta is a numeral.

The easiest way to submit is on Crosshare (and you get instant feedback and unlimited attempts!) But you can also PM me with your submission. Either way, I'll compile a list of those who successfully solve the meta.

Peck+Hepburn - Crosshare
Peck+Hepburn - PUZ
Peck+Hepburn - PDF

Kitten
Calico
Persian
Puma
Lion

Nudges are here.
The solution is here.

"supervising a year 7 German extra gridding away"

Hmm... well, those words seem to mostly be in English...

"This is not intended to be a very difficult meta"

Funny how intentions work, innit?

I'm pretty sure I've figured everything about about this ... except the actual numeral.

From what I can tell, this one appears to be totally and utterly out of my knowledge base. Or else, I'm wayyyy off track. I'll keep an eye out for those nudges!

There's still another hour to go before the end of the first 24 hours, but here's the first batch of solvers:

Berto
Hector
SamKat9
Andrew Bradburn
Tim
I K Snamhcok

Only 6! I did not anticipate this one playing so hard. I'm going to release the nudges early to get as many solvers through before the WSJ hits...

Nudges, in order of increasing blatancy:

1. There is one hint in the grid, 9 down: "When in Rome, ___"

2. It will help to know that Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn starred in a well-known movie together.

3. You need to find a numeral. For that, you will need a number. But which number? The puzzle title contains a clue.

4. Add up the clue numbers of the grid entries that combine to form a word from the movie title.

Needed just one of those nudges (…but had to read three first to get to it)

Either way, should have gotten it… oh well. Clever, compact concept, Ben!

Cat coaxed out of the bag... (although I had seen essentially everything there was to see).

Needed the first two nudges but, in retrospect, it played harder than it actually was. Fun, nevertheless. Thanks, Ben!
