Painting by Numbers Muggles.jpg

Ahoy Muggles!

Yes, it's me again for the third straight week! Man, I don't know how constructors like Gaffney, Shenk and our own @benchen71 and @MikeyG do it week in and week out. Those guys have elevated meta production to an art form! And speaking of art, this week's puzzle involves a classic work of art with which I'm sure you're all familiar. Whether or not you solve the meta, please be sure to check back at the end of the week to see @BrennerTJ's reveal graphics. Talk about fine art! :D I'd like to thank @Abide, @Al Sisti, @boharr, @whimsy, @MarkWoychick, @Wendy Walker, @Hector, @BrennerTJ, and @Joe Ross (any relation to Bob?) for testing, technical, and artistic assistance.

The meta answer is a famous work of art.

Difficulty:
Not sure about this one. Some testers got it fairly quickly, while others needed to be nudged. Let's call it "A Bit Choppy" to be safe.

Nudges are here.
Solution is here.

Good luck!

I've tried nothing and I'm all out of ideas!
Funny story. I was all set to enter Par for the course for the CrossHare midi contest for April but I mistakenly thought midi meant 7x 7 and not 11 x 11. Oops. Well.... Here's a complex but **small** meta on the subject of golf.

Aw c'mon, @woozy! What could be easier than "Painting by Numbers"?

Send me a PM if you'd like an early nudge.

Argh. Shouldn't have needed that nudge.... was 90 per cent of the way there. But, oooh, what a clever final 10% step that last bit was! Very clever.

OTC, thanks Rick!

I really thought that I was on to something with my first idea, which I explain on Crosshare.

My process and sentiments exactly!

A masterpiece of a meta. Thanks, Rick.

Off the couch! Got this meta instantly, but we're still looking for the confirming step some have mentioned. Not that it's really needed...

[EDIT: have the confirming step now as well. Nice.]

Wow, keep this up Cap and you are going to have to cede your amateur status. Loads of material to find and a really nice "AHA!". I LIKED it!!

The couch had been vacated. It did require a couple of private nudges! But a very clever puzzle.
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!
