Forest Sight - September 2023

A monthly, music-themed meta crossword published at noon on the first Tuesday of every month. The puzzles increase in difficulty each month, and at year end there is a 13th puzzle (the "Mega-Meta") that invokes each of the 12 monthly puzzles. Currently available at https://pmxwords.com/, as well as through the Washington Post website here: MMMM at WaPo

Seems like I only occasionally remember to do this one, but glad I did this month. Fun stuff.

On the board!

That aha was better than what Reggie Jackson said hitting was better than.

Well, not really, but still pretty darn good!

I could use a nudge. I've found all the sights in the forest.

It's just Wednesday, give it at least another day. Take a break from it and look at it later.
(that's just my opinion, though)

Had to pick this up and put it down again several times before I caught on.
Tricky one from Pete.

Needed help but got it. I had seen the technique before but had forgotten it until nudged.

Got it. Step 1 was pretty quick but I had to keep putting it down / coming back to it before the AHA moment dawned.

Well, I didn't get it. So I put it down. Spent a day prepping a house for sale. Came back again and looked at it with fresh eyes. And I didn't get it.
Funny story. I was all set to enter Par for the course for the CrossHare midi contest for April but I mistakenly thought midi meant 7x 7 and not 11 x 11. Oops. Well.... Here's a complex but **small** meta on the subject of golf.

again chased a red herring down the rabbit hole, dug for a bit, friendly nudge (at least this time it didn't take dynamite) and finally saw the answer through the forest...

Echoing all the good reactions to this… seemingly took forEVer to get it, but what a great AHA! And marvelous construction to boot

Not seeing the forest at all for the things I see. Desperately need a nudge.

I am lost in the forest. So many leads that take me nowhere. Desperately want that aha. Any clues?

This one feels tantalizingly within reach, but I have been staring at it for days, waiting for the forest to appear. Would be very grateful for a nudge!

Edit: Thanks to sharkicicles and woozy for the gentle nudges! I got it!

Oh. With some nudges I just got it one second after I said to the wife "I'm never going to get it"

Now that I got it I'll say:

1) It was very hard and obscure but fair.

2) it was mildly funny but a far far cry from the laugh out loud moment I was led to believe it was supposed to be.

It is a 100 percenter though.
