MGWCC #796 — "You Sound Hesistant"
Beamed up, #139, pretty good week one.
Week one, so options for no instructions, etc. Yes, I used all of the tools available to me.

I solved it as fast as I could just to see where I'd be on the leaderboard. #14
I am never going to get the last achievement (first to solve), but that's ok, because I don't want to guess. That's just not me.
Good week one!

What a difference a month makes!
Last month I finished the grid with the downs only. This month not a chance. Last month with the downs only nw instructions I got the the theme, mechanism, and jist (but not the correct answer) to the meta from the down only. This month I get the theme from the the completed grid (absolutely needed the acrosses) and no-instruction but no idea of the mechanism or answer. The instructions didn't help at first and I was a little afraid my streak would end on a week one. But I googled the meta answer.
It was a solid week one but the hardest solid week one I've ever done.

Funny story. I was all set to enter Par for the course for the CrossHare midi contest for April but I mistakenly thought midi meant 7x 7 and not 11 x 11. Oops. Well.... Here's a complex but **small** meta on the subject of golf.

Matt writes: If we do go forward with them [hints] in some form then we have to call them “Nudges” since my wife came up with that term when I discussed it with her and she feels strongly about it.
I always wondered whose imagination was responsible for this term we use. I guess this solves the mystery.

You can do it! I started chasing rabbit holes but had an epiphany that paid off.
Happy Labor Day weekend!

Shhh.... some of us are doing this instruction free (or in my case utterly failing to do it instruction-free)

Amen to this.
It's not obvious but it is one you can actually think you way through.
Don't go chasing rabbits unless they are huge with well defined contours (no "maybe this kind of fits and I can ignore these if..." for this puzzle)
And if you think "but shouldn't it be...". Yes! Hold and shake that thought and don't let go of it and pull it, pull it, pull it. (There will be a huge rabbit with well-defined contours at the end of it.)
....
(I loved this WSJCC. And not just for 49A)
