I’m doing it on paper. But I just checked electronically and they do stop.

I tried to print and the PDF it generates is two pages empty except for "Wall Street Journal" and "5th March 2015" at the top. WSJ clearly having some issues!

Thanks! You are right, I can fill in the across and check with the pdf to see if the downs make sense. I shall proceed, full-speed ahead!

FWIW I was able to download the PDF from the link a few minutes after 3 and solved the puzzle on my iPad as normal. Not the meta yet though

Glad to know I'm not insane..

Well, that this alone is not the sole cause of my insanity.

EDIT: they fixed it. And now that I reload I lost all my work (and I had completed the entire grid). Still, it's better this way.

EDIT2: not entirely fixed. They forgot to put it in meta mode. To whit: you can't submit. But you can check your progress. (I actually had exactly one square wrong)
