I am miraculously on the board at #2 behind Jangler. I don't think that I've ever been this high before, the air is thin up here!
This is a case where one of my oldest strategies happened to work, despite me thinking that it was outmoded and that I should ditch it.
I agree with Mikey G that the grid was crunchy. I resorted to Google to make sure that I had it filled in correctly.

On the board surprisingly quickly after a late start - 20-ish minutes total solve time most of that (as usual) completing the grid with interwebbing help.Maybe I can put some of that extra time I thought I'd need to solve into looking at the mega meta...

Assuming we’re on the same wavelength - I agree that there are two plausible answers but one seems to relate more to the title phrase. But I don’t think the second one is completely off.
