And thus the couch I did vacate.

Wonderful puzzle
In Matt Gaffney's last puzzle I'm quite a slouch
But with poetry in motion I'm off the couch :)

Thanks for uplifting my Monday

Day 1 is not quite finished, but we have 43 solvers so far between Crosshare and PMs. I'm happy to see the "Gentle Ripple" difficulty designation was on target, and perhaps this puzzle is a welcome respite from the "week 2" MGWCC. No nudge requests yet, but they will be coming on Wednesday for those who want them. Thanks to all who have solved so far.

Great puzzle and meta. Believe I am off the couch. The bad news: now I have no excuse for not cleaning the den AND the couch!

Very nice meta to start the week.
My humble attempt: You shouldn't let a / Tough grid get ya / I'm here to bet ya - /We'll solve the meta.

Couldn't sleep last night,
Zooming cats were causing fright;
Though now coffee I must guzzle,
At least last night I solved a puzzle--
Thank you muggles for this poem-based delight.

We have 11 more solvers and at least that many poets among them, bringing our total to 54 solvers so far - here's today's update:

Berto
BrennerTJ
Carolyn
Darrell
Dow Jones
imontoo
markhr
Pair O Ducks
rayyandroid
Snood
Teamdoubletow

And if you need some nudges, here you go:

There are five theme answers

The five theme answers share something in common

You may need to put some things in motion to find what the themers have in common

Consider 68A as you work on the themers

The meta answer is a 5-letter word

Wish I could do poetry, but I'm a geek.

Now that I've successfully beaten my head against the wall long enough to solve Gaffney, have time to catch up on the other puzzles.

Was a fun one, thanks Mark and Cap'n

The "Gentle Ripple" difficulty level seems to have been accurate: We had 68 correct solvers in the end - thanks and congrats to all. The puzzle seemed to conjure the inner poet based on the comments from many solvers, which was fun to see as well.

Here's the reveal (with animated solution below).

Helper clue and GRID ANSWER from 68A: Five PLUS one equals six (and a hint to solving the meta).

Take the first 5+1 letters of the theme answers:
SERVERFARM
SHREVEPORT
EVERYSUNDAY
VEERSMADLY
SEVEREPAIN

Put those 6 letters in motion, and you get
VERSE + R
VERSE + H
VERSE + Y
VERSE + M
VERSE + E

Which yields RHYME as the meta answer.

Once again, thanks and congrats to all who solved!
