Not hard but fun! Could actually have figured it out with less theme material, but having it all there was much more elegant
If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.

(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)

So glad to be a part of this project in the company of some very fine meta constructors! Thanks @AnswerPfinder for including me.

For those wanting a nudge, here they are in order of increasing blatancy:

1. The long central across entry is a clue of sorts in that it points at the importance of losing things.

2. Focus on the six across clues that refer to losing something.

3. Clearly the first part of these clue provides the definition for the grid entry. But the rest of the clue must have some significance, right?

4. The second part of the clue refers to a place which in turn points to another grid entry.

5. Did something get lost in moving from one place to the other?

Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

KIcking myself. I got the right answer without the nudges, but it wasn't till I read the nudges that I realized I missed all the fun.

I didn't even see the nudges until after solving. 39A was key in setting me on the right path.

Nothing clumsy about the construction of this meta. Nicely done.
