I have finished the grid, assembled the clues and I see the first step. So I'm drinking coffee with Isaac, but have a view to the beach.

Just leaving for the SHORE.
We should all leave Matt a tip for this fun and redacted meta.

On the shore, after being life-rafted there by @Cinny. Good grief; sometimes you see it, and sometimes you don't.

Apologies for being late to the Saturday morning roll call, but I'm pleased to report that I am safely ashore.

I didn't think it was particularly redacted, but the last post on page 2 was made only 36 minutes after the contest opened, so I'm probably a bit thick-headed.

HunterX wrote: Sat Apr 22, 2023 4:00 am Alas, have to report in as on the ship with Isaac. In one hotel chain, here in Lisbon, Portugal. Moving to another one today.

Downloaded the puzzle and did the grid on a bus to Nazare yesterday, where I had hoped to be on the beach. Nazare is where you can see the largest waves in the world. I say “you can” because we didn’t. Not the right time of year. Also, it was hard to stay awake while doing the difficult grid, after all the late nights of drinking in Spanish and Portuguese bars over the last two weeks. Hard enough remembering all the various local alcoholic specialties. In the adorable town of Obidos, we had shots of Ginja in chocolate shot glasses. (We had to! It’s the tradition!)

Well, we fly home tomorrow. So I’ll have time to work on the puzzle then. (Or catch up on sleep.) Now off to another day of exploring beautiful Lisboa!

Glad to be ashore after blanking last week for reasons I still do not comprehend.
Great weather in Northern Caliornia today. Beach Day!
Regards to all,
Jim

This is one where I thought I had it in 20 seconds, and a couple of hours later I'm stuck in a deep rabbit hole.

Joe Ross wrote: Tue Apr 18, 2023 11:05 am It's my contention that a direct line antecedent of jockey Joel Rosario (riding the winner, Clairiere, in the first video) must have ridden Feetlebaum! to victory (in the recording in the 2nd 😉). There's little doubt that Rosario is chosen to ride many excellent closers, which helps his stats, but he has to be one of the greatest closing jockeys of all-time. Bet Joel Rosario to Place in any race you can.
mydogsam wrote: Sun Apr 16, 2023 1:52 am Speaking of horse racing, did anyone see the one-million dollar Apple Blossom Handicap race today?? Pretty exciting for a four horse race.. It's really a race between the #1 horse (favorite) and the #4 horse (the second favorite).. But can the #2 SPEED horse outrun them both??? You be the judge...

So jealous! And while we're on the subject, it's a beautiful day for the race ...

Until next week, then --
