MEOW #124 Bill Collector

A weekly meta crossword on the forum started by member Josh (aka madhatter5). These puzzles are often very creative with solving mechanisms out of the norm and skewing towards the more challenging. Puzzles are posted every Wednesday, and the solution appears the following Tuesday.

Well hopefully forewarned is forearmed. As promised here is this week's puzzle. It is not as polished as Play Dough, but I doubt it is any more difficult. You ought to be able to recognize the themers right away (though I will tell you they are not symmetric), and if not there is always Friday nudge day.

Cat's out, I think. (Just awaiting official confirmation.)
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

Solved after an initial wobble that generated a plausible answer out of two small mistakes. Fun stuff, thanks.

I'm having the exact opposite issue. I have what sure must be the only possible mechanism but it does not yield a plausible answer. (I don't think I'm making any mistake...

EDIT: Ah, geez! Fish-hooks and jewelry clasps! OCD and myopia in combination can be fatal for meta-solvers! Off the couch now.
Funny story. I was all set to enter Par for the course for the CrossHare midi contest for April but I mistakenly thought midi meant 7x 7 and not 11 x 11. Oops. Well.... Here's a complex but **small** meta on the subject of golf.

This is too good not to share. Darth forwarded me a story about the star of this Meta, a feline in Tulsa, Oklahoma:

I started using the new 1040 EZ-2-DO:

Works out to be the same amount as for my CPAs form and I don't have to pay to get it done... :D

The cat is out of the bag. I was finally able to put some scratch together for the bill collector. I was working on variations of two different mechanisms. Surely ONE of them had to be correct. Unfortunately that was not the case. I misinterpreted part of the intro which kept me from seeing the true path for a long time.

Great fun Dr. Tom. Thanks!!!
