Nudge sent! :D
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

Ashore!
Completed the grid prior to my phone self-destructing on Friday morning after literally kayaking to shore whilst on vacation - must have got some moisture in the darn thing...
Just got home after a 12 hour journey and voila! It suddenly came to me.

This NC Tar Heel is on shore! Grid and meta solved! (At least I've got that to cheer about....as we are not dancing in the NCAA)

Solved the grid on Thursday (I thought it was a relatively easy grid),then stared at it for a while and couldn't see any rabbit trails, productive or otherwise. Looked at it again this morning, reread the puzzle title, and it was suddenly obvious. Now looking for space on the beach.

Was very busy until Sunday morning.

On the beach, and hope it is a sunny one after all the rain in Southern California.

Better late than never- on shore after a busy weekend that prevented me from taking a good hard look at the meta.
