I just made it to shore. Fun construction, as usual.

Ashore. Trying to find some space to put my chair. It’s crowded.

Having trouble finishing the grid. Going for a swim and will come back to it perhaps with fresh eyes.

Wow, so clever...the creativity continues. I'm convinced Mike Shenk and Matt Gaffney are super-intelligences, possibly not mere humans, or if so, sent from the future.

I have no compunction whatsoever about using Google to fill in an irritating grid whose only purpose is the meta. This is just a general rule of mine. Sometimes I Google nothing, or one or two at the end. Sometimes I go full-throttle with a grid-solver cheat sheet. Couldn’t be less bothered about that.

Oops, just realized I never checked in with our cruise director to report that I'm on shore. Was trying to craft some clever post with mixed metaphors. Will note that I did dig around in a solid looking rabbit hole at first before realizing it had too many side tunnels and I needed to back out and go another way.

As usual, I'm impressed by the clever puzzle Matt crafted. I'd have preferred a slightly different final answer, but I see that that would have not have as nice a setup to get there.

That's what happened to me this week. At any rate, I'm on shore, even if I hit a coral reef that I thought was solid land on the way there.
WSJ rules say one entry per person (though the only way they can really enforce that is one entry per email account.) But I believe the muggle rules are much more flexible. You can party with the shore crowd however and whenever you get here.
If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.

(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)

Aha! On shore. Had part of it but wasn't seeing the whole picture. Finally had a "Dan, you idiot!" moment. All too common.

@Bob cruise director, count me ASHORE.
But, as you know, this was more your doing than mine.
So I’m staying on the ship in shame, tidying up the stern garden for better days ahead
