Ashore. The water was crowded with large schools of red herrings, and I needed a nudge or two to direct me to through them.

Ashore, with a nudge from one muggle (don’t look THERE) and an off-hand comment from another one. Phew; I was in lots of rabbit holes; my movie knowledge is very small. @The XWord Rabbit should have plenty of candidates this week.

@BarbaraK, I agree with all your comments. And you are one of the most skillful nudgers around!

Recent Headline:
Mysterious new substance possibly discovered inside Earth's core

Nah, that’s just some of us stuck DEEP down rabbit holes this week
Count me at the ship’s bar for scoring purposes though, Bob.

Ashore. Not a fan of the red herrings. Mike, c'mon man! And not a fan of how the mechanism was applied in at least one spot. I'll leave it at that, don't want to say too much.
Good luck to all for a successful solve. If you see that I'm ashore - rare occasion of late - message me if you'd like a nudge. Be sure to include your progress so I can know better how to assist.

I'm throwing in the towel. I've seen enough empty rabbit holes for one week.

Count me as having made my way to shore. Thanks to the nudge I received and getting my focus on something that I noticed and disregarded because I didn't take it far enough.

Not sure why, but my enthusiasm seems to have waned. (Maybe because I am solving these less often...or am I solving them less often because the enthusiasm has waned. Chicken or the egg?)

I just did the grid now and chances are slim that I will solve this one...especially given the movie reference and the comments above. I will give another look at it right before deadline, as I usually do, but I think this one is not possible for me.

Thanks to last call zoom... We can put this one to bed... Not submitting. I agree with the quibble.

Although I have lots of complaints about this, I wouldn't say it is particularly hard. The mechanism is pretty blase and common and there are clues to point you there and its themers are in the very common meta 101 way. The most difficult thing is believing it is standard and not thinking it is specific to this puzzle.
Funny story. I was all set to enter Par for the course for the CrossHare midi contest for April but I mistakenly thought midi meant 7x 7 and not 11 x 11. Oops. Well.... Here's a complex but **small** meta on the subject of golf.

Isaac said, "Hi stranger, welcome back." That was earlier today.

As the sun set in the west, I cashed out with Isaac. The check was formidable, yet reasonable. I left my usual 25% tip.

At least the sun will rise in the east tomorrow. Unless the sun falls into a rabbit hole, like I did.

Despite valiant effort by @BarbaraK (thank you!), I remain officially at Isaac's bar.

I knew I was in trouble when the time for post #40 (which is my gauge of difficulty) took nearly 5 hours. Last week it took only 26 minutes.

Congrats to all who solved!

Still On the Ship --- but not an SOS since I pretty much passed on this a day or two ago.

And so I courageously set off for midnight (well, beddy-bye, actually), knowing that come morning, I will be carried home on my shield --
