I'd bet it is because I never heard of it, but that doesn't mean it cannot be solved. It is very solvable, very well constructed and fun. When you find it there will be no doubt that is the correct answer.

Well, it's kind of difficult to guess phrases one has never heard of. But I got it eventually. I had never heard of the dance.) It wasn't The Masochism Tango

Fun puzzle.
Funny story. I was all set to enter Par for the course for the CrossHare midi contest for April but I mistakenly thought midi meant 7x 7 and not 11 x 11. Oops. Well.... Here's a complex but **small** meta on the subject of golf.

:crossed_swords: :rabbit: :dancer: :couch_and_lamp: Danced my way off the couch. VERY clever - thanks Peter.

Despite the fact that I didn't recognize (or maybe remember) the name of the dance, I was surprised to realize I've actually done it a few times.

Puzzled. I see some things that lead to other things, but none of it leads to a 12L dance.

"So, who's the special someone who's getting all that candy?"
"Uhhh, myself?"

Another great puzzle to @Abide my time! Definitely smiled when I saw what was going on!

Nudge #1

Per the central entry, first locate a synonym for a certain across entry. That special entry is appropriately clued. Don't forget to think about the clue for that entry when you are looking for a synonym.

Nudge #2

The certain across entry is the last across. If you look at that clue, a more common answer (the synonym) should come to mind. If you know your mythology, it's the Roman counterpart.

Off the couch, albeit with the nudges. Actually had part of the mechanism, but was looking at it in precisely the wrong way. Great puzzle, Peter.

Got it with the nudges and google, but still not sure I'm fully grokking it. Thanks for the puzzle regardless. :)

ETA: unsurprisingly, I was being an idiot.  Makes perfect sense now.
