Missing Something

#1

Post by Bird Lives »

Good morning. The MMM did not see its shadow last Thursday so here we are again in early February. This week’s puzzle is “Missing Something.” One of things it’s missing is a snappy introduction. Another is a banner photo across the top of this screen that seems to have become de rigueur for the MMM (why does nobody tell me these things?). Oh well, let’s get to it. But first, thanks to @Abide and @Al Sisti for suggestions and to @Joe Ross for proofreading and linkifying.

The answer is a movie.

It’s movie you know and know well. You will not need Google or ChatGPT. But the level of difficulty may be a notch higher than usual just to balance out the extraordinarily easy MGWCC from this past weekend.

PM me with your answer, or for instant gratification use Crosshare. Deadline Saturday evening; nudges Wednesday, or earlier if needed.

Hey, where is everybody? Was it something I said? Or maybe it was what I didn’t say. Maybe this will make up for that.
There are four thematic elements (actually lines) to the mechanism, symmetrically placed.

Needed Google 3 or 4 times to finish the grid  , but only needed the nudge to solve the meta. Fun stuff, thanks.

Off the couch! Nice one, Jay.
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

Good and clever mechanism but... little out of left field
Funny story. I was all set to enter Par for the course for the CrossHare midi contest for April but I mistakenly thought midi meant 7x 7 and not 11 x 11. Oops. Well.... Here's a complex but **small** meta on the subject of golf.

Just ‘cause it’s quiet doesn’t mean we’re not working it, and that’s not a bad thing. I’ll crack this nut yet!

Just wondering what TFTP stands for. I looked up https://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/TFTP and it only lists:

Trivial File Transfer Protocol
Terrorist Finance Tracking Program (US Treasury)
Technology for the People (India)

As Day Two dawns, we find a select group of fourteen leaving the couch:

Abide (TS)
Al Sisti (TS)
1. Darth
2. ChrisCross
3. michaelm
4. ajk
5. Gutman
6. SJMcK
7. Carolyn
8. dudeski
9. dplass
10. boharr
11. benchen71
12. Bbaack
13. ChrisKochmanski
14. Laura M

Yesterday’s nudge helped elevate a few of the fab fourteen. So here’s a clarification of that nudge plus another one for today.

Joni Mitchell solved it. She looked at both sides now.

What’s missing from each of the four meta-related words is a letter.
