There's a great bird flying across the sky, so you know what that means! It's time for the superb owl!

Hmmm? What? Oh, yeah, Super Bowl. I get those confused.

We know it's the Chiefs and Eagles, and I don't think the Eagles have been as tested this year. The Chiefs gave us two great games against the Jaguars and the Bengals, so that's my pick for Super Bowl LVII!

Don't worry, these metas have nothing to do with sports.

---

After triumphing over my meta, Peter had a great themed tie-in, crafted one up, and sent it my way! I liked the cluing and the meta-nism and, since it's also a soup-er puzzle, voila, you have a mini-meta suite (sweet!).

I'm thinking both will play as a Level 2.25-2.5 (mine does seem to be in the 2.5 frame or so) - for each, I think you'll either see it right away or it might take you a little bit.

---

47a. Souper Bowl and 47b. Souper Bowl Halftime Show

The answer to each meta is soup-er (it's a type of soup, folks).

Deadline to 47a is Monday, February 13 at 1 pm ET.
Deadline to 47b is Friday, February 17 at 11pm ET.

---

Good luck, and may all your solves be beautiful!

The beaming cat, having crossed and stormed, is out of the box and ashore.

Or something like that.

This was one of those cases where I finished the grid … looked for a while … drifted off to a nap … awoke … and saw what’s going on almost immediately. Nice!

Thanks, Mikey!

Nice one, Mikey. Lots of fun cluing, too! :D
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

Penguin! It's Penguin Soup! Right?

EDIT: I was joking. I wrote that before I even did the puzzle. Now that I've completed the grid..... um, is it penguin soup?
I guess I should change my signature, and start promoting this meta: Hungry Little Creature. I was going to sent it to people for testing but I dropped the ball on it.

It and 22D are stretches. But "totes" is a fairly newish slangy for "totally <something positive>"

I must be in pretty good shape - I do these stretches all the time!

Well RATS I thought sure I had posted a reply but it does not seem to be here? I checked my Private messages and e-mail and nothing from the moderators telling me it was unacceptable so I can only guess it goes into that category of "thought I finished the posting". Any way here it is.

Got the answer (at least Crosshare says I did) - great now I am hungry. Very clever puzzle with more than just a bit of herringness within. Now for a DrTom question...

How are these cats appropriate vís-a-vís today's puzzle?

Umm… they’re as adorable as the cluing? You eat soup with a SPOON, which is what they’re kinda doing?

Finally got this one after being distracted by something that seemed to be waving “over here! over here!”.

An now, to see if I have any of the necessary ingredients in my pantry… sounds like a good choice, if this weather is going to do what they say.
The other Wendy.
