MEOW #114: The Sign of Four

#1

Post by madhatter5 »

Hi all and welcome to the hundred and fourteenth installment of the MEOW!

Guess who? ;)

I am returning to the fore this week, hopefully for a while. I admit I thought I would take a longer break but my workload has abated and also I am a bit of a meta addict it seems. But to be clear, I maintain the right to jump out again if I need to. I must say the metas that have appeared since I left the stage have been PHENOMENAL without exception. I tip my hat.

This week is a bit of housecleaning, I have a simple one that was rejected for an MMM  but I still like it. And I want to get it off my hard drive.

The answer to this meta is eight letters long.

Can someone please tell me how to print this puzzle? All I can do at this point is lots of screen shots and many cutting, pasting, and re-sizing steps.

Cat is out of the bag. In a stunning coincidence, it has four legs.

It is only today, from some confused solvers, that I have come to learn "break a toenail" is a phrase my mother made up and is not in the language. Go figure.

Not meta related.

Perhaps a less violent version of "break a leg"?

I was wondering about that. I assume it had to be meta-related as I couldn't think of any reason anyone would want to break a toe-nail or something at all desirable. So... um.... okay. What was "break a toenail" supposed to mean?

Awaiting Copenhagen confirmation, confidently. You don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to let the cat of the Baskervilles out of the bag.
