MGWCC #764 - “Eat, Drink, and Be Meta”

#101 on the board! Would’ve been higher, but my PT session started just as I realized the last step.

Beamed up. I submitted minutes after the last update so I will need to confirm but I am calling it a solve.

NIcely dialed back, as promised in the write up, "to balance the meta scales".

Edit: Confirmed! Matt must be updated regularly in an attempt to stay ahead of the rush.

Took a few minutes to suss it all out but it's a no-doubt answer and should be beamed up when the next intergalactic bus rolls by....

Part of the grid was tricky, but then beamed up quickly.

Oh, Now I get it. I thought it had to be something but... I can do something else.

I'd say it's not that easy as there's a rabbit hole that is actually more compelling than the true path and that uses the same mechanism but gets nowhere.

Also there is a (maybe unintentional) ambiguity on one of them.

Waiting to beam up but now pretty sure.

EDIT: there are I am at 153 and ... I just realized yet another thing.

Funny story. I was all set to enter Par for the course for the CrossHare midi contest for April but I mistakenly thought midi meant 7x 7 and not 11 x 11. Oops. Well.... Here's a complex but **small** meta on the subject of golf.

Got a late start due to eating, drinking and being merry with friends for lunch.

Fun one! I quite enjoyed it. And yes, I agree that Matt took it easy on us for a week 3. Even the grid was pretty quick, relatively speaking.

Was out of town for a few days so I got a late start on this, but I've safely beamed. Appreciated the easing of the difficulty level on our 50th wedding anniversary!

Waiting to beam aboard. This was the Week 2 I so desperately missed last week!

Man, did I get Natick-ed in that section with 17D, 19D, and 23A. I had to Google to finish, but then again, there was a ton of theme material in a small-ish amount of real estate.
Happy to give nudges. If you notice I've solved, please tell me about avenues you've explored so I can nudge you in the right direction and not off a cliff.

Beam me up! Now if I get next week's I'll have three in a row AND earn my Four-gone badge - solve a week 4 puzzle!

We'll see...

Have a good weekend!

Got this quickly (I hope, awaiting beam) but didn’t believe I was on the right track until near the end of the solve. Just ingenious. Congrats to those who solved it so quickly. (Guess I’d be further up the board if I didn’t wait until 6pm to start!!!)

Wow, that grid had some gnarly spots - like an unfamiliar word crossing 4 proper nouns, one vaguely familiar and guessable, but the other 3 totally unknown. Thank you, google.

Waiting for the transporter chief to get back on duty, but confident I’ll be beamed up then.

I thought one of the clues could have been Star Trek related, but realized it’s close but a different spelling.
If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.

(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)

Awaiting the tractor beam! This was just my speed... Didn't see it right away but after persuing a related strategy... ended up on the correct one for this puzzle.

Agree that parts of the grid were Naticky, but I don’t mind that. I got snagged for a little while with one part, because there’s a great valid alternate option for one of the eleven, but backsolving made me switch to the one that was obviously intended. Awaiting a refresh, but feel sure I’m on the launch pad. Or wherever it is you stand awaiting a beam up!
