MGWCC #763 -- "Not for Nothing"

Dear Solver,

Today's puzzle is Week 2 of 4 in January.

Instructions:

This week's contest answer, which is 7 letters long, is what I hope you'll find this meta to be.

Good luck!

--Matt

NOTE: Due to the late post, the deadline for this week’s contest is Wednesday, January 18th, at noon ET.

Thanks Matt, but I was looking forward to MGWCC as a break from your WSJ contest crossword

Really this is a stupid nitpicky thing to complain about, but I'm not a fan of the Sat-Wed puzzle span. I like to have a puzzle on Fridays! I wonder if we could convince Matt to move the normal release day to Thursday, deadline Monday?

Agree with Laura M on the Sat release date - but for this sort of wizardry, I will wait. Submitted. Two great puzzles from Matt this week imo.

ETA: #6 on the board.

Very cool puzzle. A little trickier than most Week 2s. But easier than the WSJ.

This is definitely crunchy. I guess it's a Week 2 once you get it but, of course, you have to get it!

Was hoping to squeeze in behind the indomitable e.a., but @docison, @Abide, and others foiled that plan, haha.

Another great puzzle! It's Matt's world, and we're living in it.

Beamed up. A bit crunchy for a week 2 puzzle, but a fun solve.

Enjoyed this one a lot! I agree with @Abide that it's much easier than this week's WSJ.
Good luck, fellow Muggles!

Not easier than the WSJ for me! I believe I have step one, but that's it.

i’m with you! i see where to get seven letters but HOW? Everything i try gives me gibberish.

UPDATE: You know how they say it helps to type out all your thoughts to someone? Was doing that (setting up a nudge request for @Wendy Walker ) and doing that led me to try ONE more thing… that was the thing!

Yes, Matt, I do find this meta to be (7 letter answer) ! But definitely not a week 2, I think. I’d say at least 3.5.

Awaiting da beam.

I have step one, two, and three and then... wall.

Edit: I found a cute little 4 out of 7 coincidence. At least I assume it was an unintentional coincidence.

Funny story. I was all set to enter Par for the course for the CrossHare midi contest for April but I mistakenly thought midi meant 7x 7 and not 11 x 11. Oops. Well.... Here's a complex but **small** meta on the subject of golf.

Submitted. #47 It is a solid meta. Nice week 2.

Now back to the much more difficult (for me) WSJ meta.
