MGWCC #761 — Friday, December 30th, 2022 — “This & That”
MGWCC #761 -- "This & That"

Dear Solver,

Today's puzzle is Week 5 of 5 in December, but it's more like a 2.5 (the past two puzzles have been Week 4/5 and Week 5/5 difficulty, so I think we're all ready for an easier one).

Instructions:

This week's contest answer is a four-letter word.

NOTE: No .jpz file with this week's puzzle.

Good luck! Hope everyone enjoyed 2022's metas! 2023 beckons...

--Matt

Beamed. Leaderboard number is really just a matter of when one opened the email.
WSJ and MGWCC were both quickies. All the more time to think about my outfit for NYE.

Agreed! That grid was pretty crunchy.

Think I have it and just awaiting the beam-up. Fun meta-nism to close out 2022!

Ah, how quickly the "easy" references come out...lucky y'all. I'll just sit here and ponder my inability to immediately grok this on opening my e-mail. I have an idea what the answer has to be, just not sure how to find what would make that true.

and from "the other Tom", same - got the WSJ, think I have the first step on this one, but only 1/4 of it is "working", so time to shoot that rabbit and find another one ...

yes Toms - easy or softball to those who happen to think the way that is intended for this one. I know you both will have it shortly!

Just missed the latest update. This is a 100%er when you see it.

Now I have time for a wedding and a funeral (both online as they are too far away) this weekend.

I guess that puts a wrap on 2022 metas. Time to party hard enough to forget 2022, but not so hard as to miss the start of 2023.

Awaiting transporter beam.

Agree with above comments re: trickiness of grid, ease of metanism, and fun puzzle to close out the year!
