Merry Christmas muggles! I am having a nog with Isaac. No solve yet, which is fine. We have our daughter visiting and we all enjoyed a lovely dinner she prepared for us. I tried to include my family in the solving, but no one has figured it out yet.

Joining the party ashore for libations, but not submitting since I never would have made it without a big ole shove from a fellow muggle! Oh well, every puzzle solved puts another metanism tool in my belt. ๐Ÿคช

Finally on shore.

Got a very slight nudge. Mulled it over (like wine). Went off to watch "It's a Wonderful Life" with my wonderful wife. Then made Christmas dinner. (No 7 fishes. Just salmon with a maple-Dijon mustard glaze.) While eating dinner, the inspiration struck me. Or, I guess, the salmon "chanted" the metanism to me. As in...

Salmon-chanted evening,
You will solve a meta,
You will solve a meta,
While eating di-i-nner.

Didn't know salmon came from the south Pacific! ;)

Good evening muggles
Our final count for this week is 22 on the shp and 133 on the shore.

Don't forget that the solution will not be available on the WSJ page until either late Monday or Tuesday since the market is closed. However the normal discussion and reveal will be here after midnight tonight.

@Justmarebear Go to the top of the page where it says Private Messages....
On computers (that is, not on phones), every post has an icon at top right which will quote the post to an opened PM form addressed to the poster.
@Justmarebear, while your computer, browser, and browser protection settings may make my comment irrelevant, just be careful you don't use the quote icon, as that will post to the public forum where everyone sees it. That icon is, at least on my computer:

Rather, and again this applies to my computer but might not on yours, use the speech bubble under the poster's name:

The speech bubble will bring up a small pop-up icon you click to go to your Private Message tab in the User Control Panel, as Bob mentioned, but will quote the post, as Joe mentions.
Thank you for the correction!

On the ship but so happy to have both daughters home for the holidays that I am feeling just fine. My plan is to not look at the answer tonight or tomorrow to give ourselves another day to see if we can get to shore, so I wonโ€™t be looking at this forum either until Tuesday. Merry Christmas and happy holidays everyone!!

Made it ashore with 10 minutes to spare. I had written this one off -- gave it one last look before turning in. I was looking forward to the reveal while studying the puzzle. Then whoosh -- a do-it-yourself reveal popped out at me, the very best kind.

The Monday, December 26th, WSJ will not be published due to the Christmas holiday. The answer to Friday's contest crossword will be published on the PDF of the TUESDAY WSJ daily crossword puzzle. That puzzle will be posted later today, possibly at 4 PM ET, or as late as midnight.

This will happen again next week, with the New Year holiday being observed on Monday, January 2nd.

The cleverly worded clue at 9A (tying in with the puzzle title) was enough to get me going in the right direction. :)

Looking back on this, I have no idea how I pulled it off on page one (I normally work during the release time, so please let me have it this once, haha), but somehow, I did. Might have seen HOISTS/ISTS first after figuring Santa's laugh would have to come into play.

Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all!
