This week's WSJ variety puzzle is a hex cryptic by Cox and Rathvon. I think most will find it mid-range in difficulty but definitely a lot of fun. Highly recommended.

Yes, that was a fun one. Thanks, oldjudge, for calling our attention to it. (A much faster solve than the new Harper's puzzle, which took me three days!)

Once I gleaned what the instructions meant (by filling in a few entries), it was smooth sailing. Another great HEX puzzle.

Another lovely C&R puzzle. I saw where this was going fairly early on, but enjoyed it immensely nonetheless.

5A, 14A and 6D still not solved. Can I get some help? Lots of crossing letters but can't make sense of it.

Post enlightenment! So never mind. Got them.

I really enjoyed this puzzle. Not too brutal on the cluing, and the theme was accessible to me early on. But the theme answers were a lot of fun to figure out even when I knew the gimmick.
