Nice going, @MikeyG ! Saw the general idea reasonably quickly but took another look to get an actual answer. Beam me up, Scotty!
If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.

(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)

Beamed.

And beaming!

Such amusing clues.

And what a fun concept.

Thanks, Mikey!

Finally: Have hope! Somehow I’m thinking the Cubs will spend big this off-season. Can you see Judge or Ohtani in the ivy?

Excellent puzzle, Mikey! I had the same thoughts as Wendy W -- very satisfying and spot-on as a Week 3.

I read the intro and knew that Mikey G was the guest constructor before I started the grid. I fill downs and acrosses together as I work through a puzzle. I was afraid that Matt had put a governor on Mikey's cluing as it seemed realtively mundane. Then I got to 26A and BAM, here we go! Back to "normal".

Now if I could just get a start on the meta!

Got it now. I was indeed soooo close… and @Wendy Walker encouraged me to just keep swimming. Finally found the sweet AHA moment. Brilliant idea, brilliant execution!

Brilliant meta buddy and I scored a win🤗
I was the party of the first part. His part involved the heavy lifting.
Excellent meta, MikeyG.(enius)!

Hey @MikeyG I don't see you on the leaderboard yet. Lemme know if you'd like a nudge ;)

Bravo again on a characteristically fantastic meta.

Great puzzle! I actually had the right path yesterday but had a wrong letter in my fill so abandoned it prematurely. After fixing that it all came together. Oops!

Great puzzle, @MikeyG! Very satisfying solve with an assist from @Wendy Walker following the Zoom call yesterday. Thank you for not answering my question, Wendy, which would have given away too much. I had a big smile on my face as I realized I was on the right track as I worked out the answer.

Ready to beam up, after @Wendy Walker helped me escape a couple of rabbit holes.

Good puzzle @MikeyG! Welcome to the MGWCCCC - the last two words are "constructor club" :D
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

Yes, that is exactly why I refused to answer your question on Friday: I didn't want to ruin the wonderful a-ha moment on this one!
Good luck, fellow Muggles!
