On the board at #8. Easy peasy, but outside my knowledge sweet spot, so I had to look up a few things, which cost me a few spots. Hope everyone who celebrates enjoys the long weekend.

Took an extra half-beat, but got there smoothly in the end.
ETA: beamed in the same minute as @Wendy Walker, excellent company. :D

Well, no question that this is a Week 1.

I don't know why I even try the down onlys. That's just not my way of problem solving.

EDIT: "Sorry submissions are now closed" What the ......?!
Funny story. I was all set to enter Par for the course for the CrossHare midi contest for April but I mistakenly thought midi meant 7x 7 and not 11 x 11. Oops. Well.... Here's a complex but **small** meta on the subject of golf.

Yeah, it was a brief blip.... Weird though.

This happened to me too. Matt replied: "Could've been a glitch or you clicked twice in succession and the second one was picked up as an attempt to submit."

lol that portion of the table is 'here be dragons' territory as far as organic chemists are concerned.
Though it's true that there was probably a bit less googling than for the average solver.

Beamed, #111 -Roentgenium :-)

FWIW I get the "Submissions are now closed" message every time after I submit. I assumed it meant that having submitted just now, any further submissions were closed for me, but maybe it's my browser or something.

I found it more difficult than other Week 1 puzzles, which I have been able to solve with Downs Only, No Instructions. Not this time. I got the idea, but had to Google stuff (I never learned my table manners, especially the newer stuff). To check, I had to look at some Across clues as well. I also discovered, in Googling after I'd submitted my answer, a possible quibble about the title and answer.
