MEOW #98 Rock the Boat

A weekly meta crossword on the forum started by member Josh (aka madhatter5). These puzzles are often very creative with solving mechanisms out of the norm and skewing towards the more challenging. Puzzles are posted every Wednesday, and the solution appears the following Tuesday.

MEOW #98 Rock the Boat

#1

Post by whimsy »

Hi All --

My turn to serve up the MEOW MIX today.

Thanks to the rest of the clowder chowder and the usual suspects for testing, suggestions, and teching.

Nudges on Saturday, or PMs whenever.

Not sure but I think this is about a Calico --

The answer to the meta is a six-letter word.

Play away!

The boat nearly catsized but the feline escaped that danger.

Very fun. I was asea for a bit but finally saw the route to take. I liked it.

What do you call a rabbit hole at sea? Wouldn't the water just rush in? Lots of rabbit holes but .... something appears in the side there and if you pull at it.... and then. I'm off to sea!
Funny story. I was all set to enter Par for the course for the CrossHare midi contest for April but I mistakenly thought midi meant 7x 7 and not 11 x 11. Oops. Well.... Here's a complex but **small** meta on the subject of golf.

Which is calico? Is that most or least difficult? Asking for a friend.

On the easier end -- as long as you notice something. :D

Fun Meta, thanks Woozy.
Um.... wow, I've never been thanked for writing a 6th comment before but I was glad to write my experience and pleasure with whimsy's puzzle, but surely the person who made the puzzle deserves more praise then a person who merely posted a comment about the puzzle.

But none the less you are welcome. Always glad to have fans of my 6th comment posts.

Actually, I get confused all the time myself!
I think of us as two of the demented alternative 7 dwarfs!

Per Bird Lives -- Audience participation time!
Come up with names for the other 5!

Never mind -- it's been done -- sorta --

DEMENTED ALTERNATIVE DWARVES:
Dipsy
Clumsy
Chatty
Breezy
And of course the bad boy of the group…
Leather

Hey does that count as a D.A.D. Joke?

Cat's out! I loved this one. Great aha moments!
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

The cat is now free range.

Mrs. McBride, my teacher in fifth and sixth grade, must have liked the poem referred to in the opening post. She read it so often that I can still remember the first few lines:

The gingham dog and the calico cat
Made a meta puzzle in loose format
The entries were awkward, the clues were flimsy
Not at all like. . . .

I can’t remember the rest of that line.
