Upscale

From the pumpkin spice aroma emanating from your “device” when you opened this page, you surely realized that this is the first MMM of autumn 2022. Or if you prefer, the first MMM of of 5783 (don’t forget to change checkbook).

Talk about a tough act to follow. After last week’s MMM created by the collective wit of the Tuesday group, this solo construction is bound to be a letdown. But the powers that be at the MMM are resigned to the reality that not every at bat will be a home run. We are not Aaron Judge, or as the Bible says, “Judge? Not.”

How difficult is this puzzle. I’ll let you be the judge of that. I thought it would rate an “easy” and that little or no Googling would be required. But it turns out that not everyone is familiar with the central generator of the mechanism. Even so, that mechanism can be derived and then checked.

The answer is a five-letter word for a place to write notes.

Off the couch, I think. :D
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

Answer submitted. Crosshare would not allow me to submit for some reason.

EDIT: Off the couch. Crosshare fixed. Fun puzzle.

Similar to above, there was some glitch in submitting via Crosshare, so PM'ed. At least one leg off the couch for now...

I've got the theme, the mechanism, the gyst, and the code cracked. I have everything but... the answer.

EDIT: Okay, got it.

Loved the grid. Utterly delightful.

Funny story. I was all set to enter Par for the course for the CrossHare midi contest for April but I mistakenly thought midi meant 7x 7 and not 11 x 11. Oops. Well.... Here's a complex but **small** meta on the subject of golf.

Off the couch!

On vacation fishing. I got blown off the lake so it was nice to have this puzzle to work. It always me a lot of time to figure out how to get the PUZ file to work.
