Off the couch after listing to the left, then the right. Too many lists considered. With the nudges, I’m outta here.
Not much listing is going on here among the delphiniums in July. All straight arrows except for the 1 lazy guy.

I'm off the couch. Didn't need nudges, just needed to get MGWCC off my plate.

Nice puzzle!
If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.

(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)

Thanks Schmuel for a fun and ego boosting Meta - relatively quick solve and a VERY clean grid.

NUDGES!I am always willing to give nudges where needed; metas should be about fun, not frustration. Send me what you have done so far because often you are closer than you think!

Off the couch! I need to start consulting a list of meta solving techniques like the ones in this thread because invariably there's one that I forget.

Off the couch. If this were an old WSJ puzzle where Mike Shenk went by Marie Kelly I would say "Typical Marie"

Time for the Sunday reveal:

The answer is 'et cetera', an item on a list.

There are no clear theme entries in the grid. However, the central entry, 39A EXEMPLI GRATIA, in conjunction with the title of the puzzle, 'For Instance', are pointers in the right direction.

But where to from here? There are no straightforward consistencies in the grid. How about the clues?
There you can clues find with examples in them, as indicated by e.g., short for the Latin 'exempli gratia'.
For Instance.JPG
1A Wyatt or Virgil, e.g. : EARP
15A 8-track, e.g. : TAPE
19A Dromedary, e.g. : CAMEL
26A DeGeneres or Pompeo, e.g. : ELLEN
51A The Flying Scotsman or the Orient Express, e.g. : TRAIN
57A Sam the muppet, e.g. : EAGLE
66A Marathon or triathlon, e.g. : RACE
70A Lemon juice or vinegar, e.g. : ACID

The initial letters of the symmetrically placed corresponding entries in the grid in clue order provide the answer: et cetera.

I had wanted to create a meta with the mechanism indicated in the clues. When I was stuck at home with covid, after a couple of days I came up with this puzzle. It could have been made a bit more difficult, but considering my covid addle-brainedness I decided to keep it on the simple side, which in retrospect I think it was. 73 or so solvers. Thanks for solving - I hope you all enjoyed!
