Sudden Impact
Ahoy, Muggles!
It's great to be back in action on MMM! And speaking of "action", I love watching action movies - particularly the older ones with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Charles Bronson, et al. I could (and do) watch these types of movies over and over again, and I can recite a lot of the lines verbatim. This meta was inspired by this movie genre, and I hope you find it to be action-packed and entertaining - right up until the climactic ending! I'd like to thank @Abide, @Al Sisti, @Whimsy, @boharr, @MarkWoychick, and @Joe Ross for their pretesting and technical help.
The meta answer is a 5-letter word.

Pretty sure this wasn't intended but the clue to 1A is especially clever because in cryptics "light" can mean the answer to the clue, so it's the "first light" of the puzzle
And that's all I got at the moment

Off the couch. Fun puzzle! Thanks, @Cap'n Rick!
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

Had to do this one again, because it'd been a while since I test-solved it. I liked it just as much the second time around.

Thankfully it was not an icy slope where I needed chains! Great brain teaser from the Cap'n. Off the couch.
NUDGES!I am always willing to give nudges where needed; metas should be about fun, not frustration. Send me what you have done so far because often you are closer than you think!
