"Nonverbal Communication" - July 10, 2022
This week's puzzle: Nonverbal Communication
Difficulty: Challenging
I'm going to upload a series of sequential hints to PandorasBlocks.org later today to help folks along. I think this puzzle has a really fun mechanism, and I don't want folks to be deterred by the "challenging" rating.
The answer to this week's meta is an 8-letter word.
(I think most folks won't need Google for this one.)

This is puzzle #2 out of 5 for the July mug drawing. Answer submissions are due by 9am eastern time on Thursday (the 14th).
Happy solving!
Cheers,
Will

Really enjoyed this one! The mechanism really "clicked" for me, with a nice satisfying aha-moment.

Interesting. I have what I think is the first step, but no idea how to proceed from there!

Hmmm. This is interesting.
I did the grid while out and about, and I noticed something that I thought would lead to the solution but would require some googling when I got home.
Then I remembered that Will said he didn't think most people would need google for this one. And while there have been times when his and my ideas of what's common knowledge differ, this doesn't seem like that sort of thing. Googled anyway, and what I was thinking doesn't completely work.
So I'm still confident that I'm seeing what I'm supposed to see, but now need to figure out what I'm supposed to do next to turn that into a meta answer.

If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.
(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)

I think some googling will definitely be needed for some of us (even if he's right that "most of us" will be fine without it, as he may or may not be).

The link should be directly below the "download PDF" link - if you don't see it, try refreshing the page. For whatever reason, that usually seems to do the trick.

Dino me! I have to say that I solved the meta, but couldn't figure out the mechanism. I probably should have studied the grid longer after submitting my answer, but a fellow muggle helped me see it.
Nice puzzle, Will. Thanks!

Out of the box without any hints. Great puzzle!
I’d never heard/noticed 26A before. Now every one I see, that’s what I think of. Thanks?

oof! That was a toughie! I had all kinds of great ideas for other metas while doing it…
Needed the provided hints to steer me to the key bits… and still it was a fun solve!

Adding the nudge page is a great format for the "challenging" metas. (I needed the first one.)
That second step was a doozy. Great puzzle!
