MGWCC #725 - “Black Is the New Black”

An excellent puzzle written by one of the innovators of the meta crossword format. It comes out every Friday at noon and increases in difficulty throughout the month. Available for modest subscription (worth every cent) here: www.xwordcontest.com

That was fun! ... but I'm already starting to worry about what Matt has planned for Week #5.

I went off on some amazing tangents on this one, seeing things so relevant and brilliant that they MUST be significant but ... sadly and slowly ... realizing that they didn't apply even remotely to anything else in the puzzle.
On the leaderboard at #190!

I'm having the same weekend!

Edit: I got this one, but am still stuck on WSJ!

Still a bad weekend. I'll take a nudge from anyone willing to give one.
Funny story. I was all set to enter Par for the course for the CrossHare midi contest for April but I mistakenly thought midi meant 7x 7 and not 11 x 11. Oops. Well.... Here's a complex but **small** meta on the subject of golf.

Filled in the grid on Friday and came up with nothing useful regarding the meta so I let my subconscious work on it for a day. Fresh eyes on Saturday noticed something extremely unusual that led me, indirectly, to the solution. Loved this one.

Either an easy Week 4 or I’m just in the zone… if it’s the latter then I hope it lasts until next weekend!

Got it. Proud of myself - slowly getting better at these. Sooner or later, one of us must know.

Pretty much just insta-solved this one. Still looking for my car though.

Submitted and pretty confident on this one. Very clever of Matt.

ETA - confirmed! Always nice to get a week 4 - I have more fingers than week 4 successes.

I have an idea but nothing to support it yet, lol. Will look again after coffee in the morning!

Would appreciate a small (or large) nudge, if anyone can help.

Well that was ugly - straggling in at #264 (with significant help, to boot!). Less than zero confidence heading into week 5, but we are that much closer to a week 1.

Submitted and pretty confident.

Funny how one can spent 5+ hours on the weekly WSJ puzzle and then get Matt's week-4 puzzle (grid and meta) in under 30 minutes. Time warp indeed!
