MEOW #72: Alien Abduction
HI all and welcome to the seventy-second installment of the MEOW!
You will be shocked to hear that this week's puzzle is by ... myself. (Kinda thinking we should rename this the Muggle Enigma On Wednesday at this point, although it looks like I may have a bit more time for metas soon).
The answer this week is associated with aliens.

Cat's out of the bag, but then it immediately got beamed up!
Thanks for the puzzle! Loved the chaotic grid, and the meta was fun, too.

Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

Tough fill. I have four of the five starred clues figured out. Can't seem to get the fifth or quite figure out how to back-solve. Need to walk away and come back with a fresh look in a few minutes.

I’m in EXACTLY the same place, I believe. There does seem to be something missing … Or I’m just missing it. I’ll keep plugging, but don’t be surprised if I PM you soon to compare notes.

The cat is roaming free. I had to backsolve for the final piece. But I appreciate the cleverness and ingenuity.

Cat is out of the bag! Great meta. Welcome back Josh.
Three separate aha moments. It’s a 100 percenter so I am not even confirming. You had me going for awhile.

My cat needed a bit of rescuing but finally made it out of the bag. Thanks, Josh for a devious one.

But there are only four starred clues....
I figure that is a typo and 55A is supposed to be starred.... but it isn't.
Ooops... didn't see Josh's post about that.
======
Anywhoo, I'm pretty sure I have the first two (out of presumably 4 or 3) steps figured out and the starred clue you don't have but... I have no idea what the final result is supposed to be or what steps 3 and probably 4 are supposed to be.
======
I figured out steps 3 and 4 and got it.
Oh my god!
Okay, Josh is evil; I get that.
But what excuse do all the people who solved this have? No normal human being should ever be able to solve this!

I guess I should change my signature, and start promoting this meta: Hungry Little Creature. I was going to sent it to people for testing but I dropped the ball on it.

Well, that was a bit of time to work through, but it was a fair and fun meta.
Thanks Josh for getting me out of my (meta) comfort zone.

Quite a workout! But managed to get off the exercise mat.
And I wasn't even seeing the total picture. But now I've been informed by the chief feline and let me say that this one was way good!

The cat is light-years away by now!
Much fun! Though I needed help closing.
Good one, Josh. Thanks greatly!

Tough grid and meta, but I really enjoyed this.
An impressive effort from Josh.
