Let's Split!

Post by MikeyG »

I know you love when your favorite crossword constructor makes an appearance! But they're not available, so you're stuck with me.

Also, I did the math ("It's what I do," to quote a recent title), and it's time for a special shindig (who brought the cake?):

Image

This is the 100th post in this subforum, which means this is our 100th Muggle Meta Monday! And in honor of it being our 100th post, you can win 100...pats on the back, virtually speaking, if you solve this conundrum. (But, actually, one of you at random will receive a $15 Amazon gift card! So you're 3/20th of the way there.)

A special shout-out to Peter, Al, and Joe for all the great feedback and support on this one! This is looking like a 3, since you have to get inside my head as well, and there's a lot of algebra and calculus in there. This place rocks, but I don't take it for granite.

The answer to the meta is a common two-word phrase illustrated repeatedly in the grid.

Let's Split - PUZ

Let's Split - PDF

Let's Split - Spreadsheet

The famed Leaderboard of Destiny will come piecemeal in various follow-up posts along with nudges on Wednesday and semi-shoves on Friday.

Best of luck!

Off the couch, awaiting confirmation. Fun puzzle! Thanks, Mikey.
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

I ... honestly don't know if I'm off the couch or not.

That usually means I'm not.... except when I am.

EDIT: I'm not. Didn't feel good enough. But I'm drawing a blank on common two word phrases.....

Funny story. I was all set to enter Par for the course for the CrossHare midi contest for April but I mistakenly thought midi meant 7x 7 and not 11 x 11. Oops. Well.... Here's a complex but **small** meta on the subject of golf.

Awaiting confirmation, but my submission feels right. Hmm…..
Edit: confirmed I’m OTC. I’ve gotta stop hallucinating rabbit holes.
And thanks to a fellow Muggle for the necessary nudge.

Errata posted at the top; it's not part of the meta. A fellow muggle reached out to me and noted it, and I thank you for that, and I feel bad I didn't catch that in editing, because that is someone's name and those are important. Sincerest apologies on that. Hope to get an updated version soon.

I'll be replying to some answers today! I work nights, so I'm just getting up now, haha.

Still embarrassed by that, as names are a sacred part of our identity. It was unintentional, but that doesn't make it right, and so I offer deep apologies on that. I know her name, have used it before, and am familiar with her work; I looked at the name of the Finnish city too quickly, apparently, and am sad I couldn't catch it in time! But we learn and are better for it.

The files have been corrected & clue 37D was re-written. If you still see her misspeeled name, do a hard refresh (CTRL+🔄 on a PC - dunno on Apple stuff) or clear your cache, cookies, &/or history.

Any test-solver who got the right answer without nudges should have a shot at that $15 windfall

Grid done and I see what’s going on here, but a common phrase? I found a phrase that is a thing, that describes this perfectly, but I doubt it’s the answer…. DM-ing a few peeps to see what’s up.

(Clickety clickety typey type….)

…. And, YES, I had the right answer (I had two answers ready, but one was def. more common). Enjoyed it!

Off the couch! [well, awaiting confirmation anyway. Was sure of my answer till I saw others saying theirs turned out to be wrong.]

Later: CONFIRMED!
