MEOW #68: Excalibur

A weekly meta crossword on the forum started by member Josh (aka madhatter5). These puzzles are often very creative with solving mechanisms out of the norm and skewing towards the more challenging. Puzzles are posted every Wednesday, and the solution appears the following Tuesday.

Cat is out of the bag! Love the grid art, and the "aha" moment was fun, too.

Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

Ben has graciously pointed out my meta answer is misspelled. I made it in a hurry. Sorry!

Man my bad luck continues. I am SURE I know what Josh wants, but I'll be darned if I can make my assumption fit the GRID I have solved.

Are you allowed to make your own grid, solve that and submit?????

The cat and bag are headed to divorce court.

Awaiting confirmation, though confident. I too am seeing a misspelling — and I hope I’m seeing that misspelling correctly (if you know what I mean).

Fun!

Thanks, Josh!

I believe the cat is free.
EDIT: Confirmed. Not an easy puzzle but creative as always.

I'm grubbing in the dirt and I don't even know if there's a potato down there...... *sigh*.
I guess I should change my signature, and start promoting this meta: Hungry Little Creature. I was going to sent it to people for testing but I dropped the ball on it.

Cat free. What happened to Whimsy? I thought she kept Josh from going off the tracks.

In fact Claudia sent me a puzzle for this week and, spotlight-seeking vagabond that I am I decided to speed-make one of my own.

Well I learned my lesson :)

Sheesh! Well with a nudge and finally a hard slap to the head the cat was freed. I am SUCH a victim of habit that I could not solve because I wanted it to be a certain thing and it wasn't. Very clever GRID and puzzle, and of course a "truly Madhatter" kind of mechanism.

I dunno. Giving up on what I thoughted he wantsted to had, doesn't mean I can find whats he does wantses to has any easier.

I have nothing at all except that I know three things he doesn't wants.

Grasping at straws when a MEOW continually comes up empty while others say "oh, I get it" always brings out the inner Gollum in me.

I know four things he doesn't wants but doesn't knows whats he does wants.
