Make ‘em Irish

Post by Bird Lives »

Top o’ the mornin’, Muggles. St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Thursday this year, so this Monday Muggle Meta is ahead of its time. But after a few pints of Guinness, nobody will care.

The meta is a wee bit tricky, but there's a big hint in one of the clues, so it's not as challenging perhaps as a typical one by a certain St. Patrick’s Day Parade Grand Marshal. In the neighborhood of a 1½. If you’re frustrated at first, before you come after me with shillelagh in hand, wait for the Wednesday nudges, which you might want to look at even if you’ve solved the puzzle since they will be intended to amuse as well as enlighten. For the moment, please note that the similarity in the title to the name of an Irish musician is purely coincidental and has nothing to do with the meta.

The answer is a seven-letter word associated with the Irish.

I left a few possible entries on the cutting-room floor. If you can think of other good ones I missed, put them in the PM with your answer.

Also awaiting confirmation, 'though I'm (atypically) optimistic that I'm right.

Mid-morning update: Success!

Off the couch! And it’s not Wednesday yet. Thanks Jay. Fun puzzle.

From 2013 in Dingle. Loved that town and peninsula.

After Lambasting the WSJ a few minutes ago, I worry if I'm being too negative so let me say: I loved this puzzle. It was wonderful in every way and I really, really had to think to get it and boy was it satisfying to get.

Great puzzle.
I guess I should change my signature, and start promoting this meta: Hungry Little Creature. I was going to sent it to people for testing but I dropped the ball on it.

Off the couch after [deleted by Spoiler Police 👮‍♀️ ] which arrived over the weekend.

Great puzzle! It incorporated a clever idea with neat and tidy construction. I appreciated the attention to detail.
