MEOW #67: "Copy That"

A weekly meta crossword on the forum started by member Josh (aka madhatter5). These puzzles are often very creative with solving mechanisms out of the norm and skewing towards the more challenging. Puzzles are posted every Wednesday, and the solution appears the following Tuesday.

vandono wrote: Wed Mar 09, 2022 2:24 pm The grid was a ton of fun but I still sit here searching for the meta word. It reminds me of a poem I recently read in a book my oldest daughter bought me for Christmas, and it was written by a 9th-Century Irish scribal scholar in the margins of a manuscript he was copying - which fits the title of today's Meta. So there with a Latin commentary on Virgil and a list of Greek paradigms he penned this:

I and Pangur Ban my cat,
'Tis a like task we are at:
Hunting mice is his delight,
Hunting words I sit all night.
<snip>
When you're a monk and copy out
Manuscripts all day without
A fifteen-minute coffee break
The mind can wander. It may take

You back to your warm Irish house
And idle games of cat and mouse.
You're just another bored scribe that
Pens doggerel about a cat.

But ask yourself, wouldn't it be better
To puzzle out madhatter's meta?

Or better yet, perhaps the cat
Can try her paw at "Copy that"
And annotate those exegeses
While you hunt mice and steal their cheeses

But maybe it would turn out funky
If the cat became all monk-ey

Hey, I think I figured one out for myself this week!

I guess even a blind cat finds his way out of a bag now and then...

Phew! The cat is finally freed, but not without a lot of hissing and clawing, and a nudge from a muggle friend!

Nudges!

The title is an instruction - apply it to the themers

^^^ I mean literally do this on paper, place the copies side by side and stare at what you see

I made one misspelling unfortunately. Thanks to Darth for catching it. I did know that NATO spells it differently but that fact did not occur to me when making the puzzle

About frickin' time!

The title is an instruction - apply it to the themers
Yeah, yeah, obviously....

^^^ I mean literally do this on paper, place the copies side by side and stare at what you see
Yeah... whatever, and .......... *gasp*...... Oh, for #@!* sake!

....

Got it now.... The groaning and anger I feel is just proof that this is a clear and clever puzzle that did it's job and legitimately puzzled me.

Good job. Good puzzle.

I'm going to go take a walk and kick squirrels and growl at small children now.

(I think the car has a similar misspelling)
Funny story. I was all set to enter Par for the course for the CrossHare midi contest for April but I mistakenly thought midi meant 7x 7 and not 11 x 11. Oops. Well.... Here's a complex but **small** meta on the subject of golf.

I was going to peek at the nudges, but if it’s that good and head-slapping, maybe one more trip around the block with it…
