Finished the grid on Thursday while waiting for family to start arriving from out of town for a weekend of celebration. Lots of beloved family and joyful honoring of a granddaughter's talent and hard work. There was no time to even glance at the meta after the arrivals started. After a wonderful weekend, I'm going to skip this intriguing meta and head straight to bed. So, Bob, I guess I didn't even make it to the ship. Maybe in the morning I can solve before looking at the Monday puzzle. Night, Muggles!

Well, after finally emerging from a dead-end rabbit hole that I didn’t want to leave, I made it to shore. New Glarus in hand.

Eureka!! Another 11th-hour crawl to the beach—waterlogged and gasping, but triumphant!

I had seen this license plate several times (the car is usually parked on a nearby block) before I read the fine print and realized that the owner was not necessarily a religious fanatic.

So you can get the UNC emblem and team name on a VIRGINIA license plate? Wow! Also, the registration is expired! 👮
I took that picture a while ago. But for those who are interested, here's the update from this morning.
.
I nearly forgot! GO HEELS!!

I was going to suggest modifying your moniker, but now I see it is more complicated than a few clicks to do that! Nice car Mr Brown!

I took a leisurely swim ashore this weekend but arrived in time to raise one or two to Mr. Shenk for a clever mechanism with a few distractions scattered around.

Since I entered and posted so late this week, I thought I would wait for the deadline and share my take on this week’s solve.

Peak Experience

When it seems no solution can reach you
A voice in your head might entreat you
To search for the place
Within a shared space
It’s like being atop Manchu Picchu

Now, lights out!

I was onshore with four minutes to spare. Any alcohol left on this beach?

I found Greece, Cyprus and Chad first. Thinking there would be eight letters, I went to Ethiopia. Then found Nauru. Uh oh. My head hurt. The next day, saw the crossings resulted in the same letters each way, and found Ecuador instead of Chad.Eureka!

Yes, I got it! Somehow missed the DOWN countries, got the across. Well, four out of eight, good enough for government work...

Dang it! I spent a lot of time looking for crossing countries but never thought to use the black squares. I also went down some other rabbit holes:
8 non-English words: DONAU, NORDIQUE, GRAZIE, DUCATI, MADRAS, CERO, OLE, ETE
River through Ulm and Wien and Quebec player before the team relocated to Denver: Cross Country?
Several words that just made me think of countries: GREENE: Greece or Greenland; HANGRY: Hungary; ARDENT: Argentina? ; DENSE/NORDIQUE: Denmark/Norway; UNITES: United States

Congrats to all the solvers and good luck winning the mug!

My deepest rabbit hole was finding countries in the grid by replacing a letter. OMG
Grenada, Greece, Malta, Guam, Laos, Peru, etc... - led to madness.

Looked at 3 letter country codes, 2 letter, etc...

Wow this was really tough for me this week!
