#717 - “Following a Pattern”
MGWCC #717 — Friday, February 25th, 2022 — “Following a Pattern” by Patrick Berry
GUEST CONSTRUCTOR PUZZLE:
A bit under the weather this week so I need to punt. Returning that punt is the estimable Patrick Berry, who you can read a bit about here.
This isn’t a Week 4, but in my fatigued state I wasn’t able to complete my Week 4 idea in time. But I think if anyone can pack a Week 4’s worth of fun and ingenuity into a Week 2, it’s Patrick! So let’s give it a look.
THIS WEEK’S INSTRUCTIONS:
This week’s contest answer is a six-letter word.

#2 on the board - might have been first if I hadn't had to take a break in the middle of my solve. Smooth offering from Mr Berry as always.

Fun! I flailed around a bit but I'll probably be in the top 50. No doubt, except for the 1.5% that I always have :-)
Edit: #25! Better than I thought.
(I will never get the 1-Across achievement and I'm okay with that!)

Easier than the week 2. Both MGWCC and WSJ were pretty enjoyable this week

Beam up requested. FWIW, I'd say this is a no-doubter. Unless, of course, I'm wrong. But really, coincidences like that just don't happen.
The title gave me an idea for a puzzle, in case I some day manage to get the hang of making these things.

If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.
(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)

Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

Why are there not more on the board? Found this very straightforward.. unless I’m totally off? Awaiting confirmation. Let that finger hover over the beam button.
Edit: that didn’t take long! Beam me on up.

Great puzzle! Definitely took at least 30 minutes because of a certain rabbit hole, but I should be beaming up soon!

I think the non-standard release time affects people’s solving schedules.HeadinHome wrote: ↑Fri Feb 25, 2022 5:15 pm Why are there not more on the board? Found this very straightforward.. unless I’m totally off? Awaiting confirmation. Let that finger hover over the beam button.

waiting to beam up after exploring a few rabbit holes.
EDIT: confirmed, as expected. Muggling while bathing to the rescue yet again. Hope Matt is feeling better, but a Berry lovely fill-in.

Beamed up, after a struggle. A fun one, though. Patrick's puzzles are always well thought out.

Grid done. See A pattern. But for some reason, not seeing what to do with it.
Maybe it was the [one... two... three... uh... I forget...] drinks I had at dinner? Naaaah.....
I'll look at it tomorrow.
