It’s late afternoon. My knees bark as I crawl my way up the sand; freshly revealed by the outgoing tide. The sun embraces me, the gulls circle lazily, and a soft breeze tousles the six hairs on my head. I glance out to the sea. “You shall not claim me; not today,” I silently exclaim as I rise, “For I am home.” I turn my back to the angry water, and to the ship, and to the cries of those who will soon join me. And I reach out a pruny hand for an ice-cold Guinness.
