minimuggle wrote: Mon Feb 28, 2022 3:00 pm Well I made a rookie mistake. I got the M & M, A &W, etc right away. But then I looked at the clues and took the first letter of the clue that matched. So I got P (piece of chocolate for M & M), R (rootbeer for A & W), , D (drink for R & B..I looked up R & B drinks which are boba tea with many flavors), E (energizer for R & R). So I immediately jumped to PRIDE. Like an idiot I used the "inn" in the grid since it wasn't in the clues duhhh. Very rookie mistake, but I can still claim rookie status. When a friend and I compared notes and she asked how I got PRIDE, I realized my mistake but it was too late to feel "bliss" since I had submitted "pride" so quickly.
I was looking to find PRIDE in my solution from the beginning but I was not as creative as you in finding a way to make it work.

Coming from Cleveland I am familiar with those little delicacies but here in Mobile we must settle for King Cake, the gaudier the better.

Man how I miss Pcazki (and for those wondering, we always pronounced it Pune schki)
( yes, I do believe it is pronounced “pune-schski”)
I'm going to weigh in on this. Being of 100% Polish descent and growing up with a grandmother who baked them for us, and she was part of the Jaworski Bakery family in Baltimore, we always pronounced it PUHNCH-kee. Fond memories!

We are always happy to get to know other muggles and help in any way! PM's are always welcome. The next best thing to winning a mug is helping a fellow muggle win a mug!

Here's an idea: 2x winners get a different and higher value prize, and WSJ splurges and selects a first time winner too! Drives repeat participants to enter and ensure the mugless muggles hold out hope that it isn't actually rigged 🤣

What’s the diff in the way we say Pączki
Let’s agree when all’s said and all’s doneschki
It’s fried dough full of jelly
To fill up your belly
Before Lenten fasts claim all funschki

I did not get it. My excuse is that I did not put enough time or thought into it, mind was diverted to the news etc. In looking at it, I think it was an excellent meta and am mad at myself for not carving out more time for it and/or for not giving in more fresh looks.

Real reason why I did not get is that I get fixated on something and even though I knew it was probably wrong could not refresh my mind.

Would have loved to have gotten it.

Pączki, you say? Funny.
(And if you say it as "Pune-sczki," well, that's extra funny points, I guess?
I am not Catholic, nor polish/from Eastern Europe...but I do love to learn about new cultures, and I *definitely* love a good pastry, so--thank you!! Adding this to the Must Try list!! :)

I don't disagree with the idea, but I don't know if there's any indication that participants need to be encouraged to enter, or that people are discouraged by not winning the mug. Speaking as a 234-time loser myself, but who's counting?

Shaking fist at @cbarbee002 --I've STILL got that song going through my head! Hoping that this week's puzzle has an earworm that is easier to get rid of.

My husband is also of 100% Polish descent; he grew up in Wisconsin, and his family pronounced them POONCH-kah, I didn't know until now how they're actually spelled!
