Very much in the same place also.
But I take heart; if @benchen71 hasn't solved this puzzle yet, then most likely cryptics are not involved!

I'm getting a sense that I crossed an invisible boundary with "Who Gets The Last Word?" and will never be forgiven! :D

I'm worried I made an assumption with this one that will end up not holding true. 🤣

First nudge Tuesday at 1 pm, eastern!

Sure Ben, and as long as you are going ot use Macbeth, I'll do so to to tell you when:
When the hurlyburly's done, When the battle's lost and won.

Hopefully my battle with MikeyG's puzzle will not be through thunder, lightning or in rain....

Settled in this morning for a nice easy 1.5. Nothing in 30 minutes, so came to read the comments. Only thing I learned is that Matt and MikeyG think alike.

Mikey has confirmed that I did, indeed, have the answer. I have no comment at this juncture.

Solved with a nudge. The best description I’ve heard of this type of puzzle is “What’s in my pocket”? Meg is being nice by saying nothing.

This is fair. I am sorry I made this puzzle. I was trying to do something different and figured it was solvable based on the forum clues (as all of these are titles of posts in the forum as well, which are free to view), and virtually all of those who solved my puzzles before were also part of the MGWCC puzzles. I needed to have an indicator to that somewhere along the way, and I didn't, which was an egregious error on my part.

Stop solving right now, guys. This was definitely an error on my part, and I will not do something like this again.

The answer is MATT GAFFNEY based on the four puzzle clues being titles in the past and the corresponding answers:

ASKED AND ANSWERED = MASKED
SPORTING CHANCE = ARCHERY
AGE-APPROPRIATE = TOP HAT
LEADING BY EXAMPLE = THIRTYSOMETHING

I am sorry it did not translate, and I vow to try better in the future with more test solvers and more editing. I am a human being and am prone to error. My sincerest apologies for wasting your time with this, as I know the meta hunt is important, and I don't want to do that to you guys, who I consider family.

Mike

My “solve” was just a guess that I thought was kind of comical. Turned out to be correct. Don’t be too hard on yourself.

Don't sweat it buddy, you have been superhuman since you started. Even the best have an off day.

I did get a chuckle that my comment above makes sense now...

Oh, MikeyG, I hope this doesn’t discourage you. I agree the puzzle is too “inside”. But as for me, I don’t mind it all that much when the less “official” meta puzzle-makers like you and MMM, MOAT, MEOW, Fill Me In, and Lexicon Devil (have I forgotten anyone?) occasionally go all mad scientist experimental on us. Remember when Peter G. Washington would sometimes take us way, way out there? It was usually OK by me. And usually interesting at the least. Just not always, please. 🙂

Hmm … Maybe with a puzzle like this, provide some kind of warning? Like: “Hey, gang, I’m out on a limb with this one. Maybe WAY out on a limb. Approach at your own risk.” Then we can decide for ourselves how much time to invest.

I don’t know, I’m just babbling, but I hope you don’t feel too bad about this.
