#711 - “Eating in Bed” by Ben Chenoweth
MGWCC #711 — Friday, January 14th, 2022 — GUEST CONSTRUCTOR PUZZLE: “Eating in Bed” by Ben Chenoweth
GUEST CONSTRUCTOR BEN CHENOWETH:
Today’s meta is by guest constructor Ben Chenoweth, who posts a weekly feature called Metas on a Tuesday (MOAT) here as well as here. His personal webpage is here.
Ben was born and raised in Australia, and lived in St. Petersburg, Russia, with his wife and two children for almost ten years. Currently, he lives in Melbourne, Australia, and teaches computing, mathematics, media, and Christian studies at Donvale Christian College. He enjoys reading, writing, music, playing computer games, and constructing meta crosswords in equal measures. He has a particular interest in the intersection between theology and the arts, and has written three novels of historical fiction, a play based on the life of Saul, and a musical based on the book of Esther.
Thanks, Ben! And note that I’ve left the Australian spellings in his clues as they were. They’re not meta-related; I just wanted to keep the puzzle in his voice.
THIS WEEK’S INSTRUCTIONS:
This week’s contest answer is something you might eat in bed.
Solve well, and be not led astray by words intended to deceive.

Congrats, @benchen71, on the great puzzle! (I always eat in bed, for what it's worth.)

Great job, @benchen71 ! Submitted just a couple minutes after a refresh, but I’ll say go ahead and BEAM ME UP, so I can start looking for somewhere for a nap… feeling inspired.

Submitted and believe I am ready to beam up. Nice one Ben, and congratulations on getting one on the MGWCC. You were being kind to us by toning down the Aussie Argot to create a bonza puzzle - either that or I'm getting used to it.

NUDGES!I am always willing to give nudges where needed; metas should be about fun, not frustration. Send me what you have done so far because often you are closer than you think!

By the way, in honor of Ben, and just for a fun time, take the Aussie Slang Quiz here:

I got a pretty good score actually and am still LMAO over "budgie smugglers" (Ben will know what I mean, I'm sure)

Congrats Ben! This was fun. I shouldn't have dallied for nearly two hours before starting. I could have been a lot earlier than #143.
Very unique mechanism but not unwieldy.

Funny story. I was all set to enter Par for the course for the CrossHare midi contest for April but I mistakenly thought midi meant 7x 7 and not 11 x 11. Oops. Well.... Here's a complex but **small** meta on the subject of golf.

As I wrote to Ben, to go from a debut puzzle to being featured by Matt this fast is just mindblowingly impressive.
