Enjoyed the (for me) relatively easy metas from Matt and Mike this week. Could this puzzle bring in a record number of correct submissions for a Week 2?

Happy to give nudges. If you notice I've solved, please tell me about avenues you've explored so I can nudge you in the right direction and not off a cliff.

Submitted and waiting, but go ahead and push that button, Scotty. Found this easier than the WSJ this week! (Grid harder than the meta)

I am scanning the grid to imagine what that might mean. Have come up with some funny possibilitiesWendy Walker wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 2:13 pm 1. Way to go, Kay! 2. A friend of mine used to belong to a cult that was sued by one of the answers in the crossword. 3. Beamed up at #119!

Awaiting beamage... Aha; #162. No need to play a 1-game tiebreaker for the division championship.
Yeah, someone had to dig *deep* for some of those grid entries. At least now I know where to get cheap coffee and a 6-hour old hot dog if I'm ever in Mexico.

We'll need the story about 2, after the deadline if necessaryWendy Walker wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 2:13 pm 1. Way to go, Kay! 2. A friend of mine used to belong to a cult that was sued by one of the answers in the crossword. 3. Beamed up at #119!

I am sure I have the answer but waiting to be confirmed. Clever construction
So no WSJ to finish, no MGWCC to finish, no Patriots game. A free weekend.

Very nice meta. I love the ones with a good, satisfying click so I can always be sure of my answer. Now to figure out Shenk’s WSJ meta.
Overthinking is my super power.

Not really. One uncle was in the Army in WW II another was in the Navy. My brother was in the Army, but I worked with the Navy most of my career. So I am neutral.802puzzler wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 6:49 pmDo you care whether Army beats Navy, or vice versa?Bob cruise director wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 4:54 pm I am sure I have the answer but waiting to be confirmed. I second this. It shows Matt's versatility. Merv Griffin purportedly was always writing down possible Wheel of Fortune puzzles he thought up wherever he went - I wonder if Matt does that with his metas! (I'd love if he put an "inspiration" note on each of the write-ups!)
