Finally ASHORE! I would have been so disappointed in myself if I hadn't kept at it. I was on the right track all along, just didn't follow it far enough. Great AHA moment when I finally came to my senses!

Well, well, well, with three and a half hours to go, I have escaped from steerage. Now I declare "on shore", but with mild confidence only. Possibly I've gone from steerage to landfill -- what I am standing on is not the nice sandy beach others have described -- but it will do for now. There is a pending private message for me, and I'll read it as soon as I've sent the email from here to New York.

Ashore just in time to board airplane home. Now I can have an in-flight cabernet.
For nudges, feel free to PM me. I won't have a clue how to help you, but you might shove me ashore.

Well I give up, and submitted a Hail Mary.

I saw something and used it for a phrase to make a last second TD bomb.

Gonna be slapping my forehead when the answer is revealed.

Our final count for the week is 17 on the ship and 162 on the shore.

Good luck to all winning the mug

On shore with minutes to spare (hopefully). Completed the grid early on Thursday and didn’t see anything immediately and then life got in the way. Mini break in Chicago, holiday party and a busted furnace to contend with. Saw the meta after a little poking around rabbit holes while distracted by the Packer game :)

Ashore!

I don’t see the Kas stars anymore. I even tried logging out and in again. What did I miss?

I had 3/4 of the mechanism with the holidays and dates, but floundered thereafter. I Hail Mary'd "SET A DATE". Close, but that won't cut it.

I sent in “It’s a date!”.

As long as we’re adding the apostrophe, might as well throw in the exclamation. Seemed like it was warranted.

On Thursday I looked up the dates and thought to check the 14/22/25/1 squares, so literally had T A A E written on my (electronic) scratch paper. But it wasn’t until yesterday that I though to include the months, despite the 8-letter prompt.

I’m pretty sure 66A was a part of the mechanism. I did not see the path until I looked at DAY and its associated clue.
