MEOW #49: Just Desserts
Hi all and welcome to the forty-ninth installment of the MEOW!
The answer to this one describes a good dessert.
Same apology as last week per some clunky entries. When you are in my line of work studying neanderthals you have to be really fast before all the fossils degrade.

Submitted and hopeful, but still awaiting confirmation (especially after last week's MEOW fiasco) before saying anything about cats and bags.
Oh, and very chuffed to find myself in a crossword! Thanks!!![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)
Edit: close but no cigar...![Confused :?](./images/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif)

Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta! ![Shocked ](./images/smilies/icon_eek.gif)

That was an excellent Aha! Nicely done, Josh. My cat has left the building.

Then just "afterthoughts" would be correct and acceptable.
So I just plain couldn't get my meta based on "Up the Down Staircase" to work.
My challenge it to constructors is to make a meta where the meta, theme or metanism is "Up the Down Staircase".

My cat did, too. Still not all the way out.

Is *any* cat actually out? I figured mine couldn't be out and it was confirmed it was not.
At this point I'm stumped. If I have to get out the scissors I'm not sure I'm willing to let the cat run that far.

Found the WRONG cake, finally nosed around and found the right cake, but cannot seem to untie that last knot on the bag. Truthfully I am stumped as to what the final bit is.
So...cat remains surrounded by fabric.

NUDGES!I am always willing to give nudges where needed; metas should be about fun, not frustration. Send me what you have done so far because often you are closer than you think!

The cat is out of the bag and currently eating the darn cake!
I needed a large push to get to the final answer because of my dogged (perhaps that was the problem, should have used cat-like curiosity!) determination to look for one thing when Josh wanted me to look for another. I'd suspect that a lot of us are having that problem. Won't say more for fear of spoiling, but this was definitely not a piece of cake.
EDIT: Turns out I was wrong. I sent Josh something and misunderstood his answer to be that I had gotten the answer. I did not and that is my 3rd or 4th try so I am hanging it up and waiting for next Wednesday.

Still not seeing what I need to see. It's a good thing it's dessert I'm striving for; if the theme were, say, chemical bonds or sports cars or...
But when I find myself getting as prickly as that cactus about it, I check back to 59D and re-chuckle myself. As people have commented at other times... worth the price of admission.
Was hoping I could clear the deck before 4:00, but not looking that way -- it'll be Saturday nudges for this Puma (I hope!)
