Anyone around for a hopefully small nudge. I feel like I’m on the right path, but….

Ashore, after a very good nudge from the ever helpful @Wendy Walker . That helped get me started, and I backed into the rest of the answer, which once done was very apparent.

I really struggle with Gaffney's puzzles. Looking back, most of the ones we never submit are from Matt (ironically, the only one we solved mid-grid was Matt's "Dude where's my car?"). There's definitely a specific method each cruciverbalist uses, and for those of you who "get" Matt and therefore solve instantly, chapeau.

Ashore! Had the mechanism and my niece and I worked through solution.

Snuck in under the wire.

Alas. We are completely lost at sea for the second week in a row. Very humbling after we thought we were getting pretty good at these. Oh well. Last week was KAS 4 as I think we just ran out of time. This week we are completely stumped. Argggh.

On shore... A fun one.. Typical Gaffney, which is to say, well done!

Whelp, my answer was wrong after all. I think I tried too hard to make it match my version of elegance.

I'll Never Solve This One Without A Nudge!...is the working title for my version of this crossword meta. I see things but what else is new? Any help would be welcome!

I now think that I did not submit the correct answer to the meta. Just leave me ashore, Bob, but I'll likely be on the wrong island. Unless this is one of those times when 2 answers might be acceptable.

@Eric Porter I hope your row went better. HOCR is a beast. My son did it a few years ago.

Wait please cruise director! We made it on the last tinder after several false starts. Taking a break for an hour and one last try did the trick for us. On shore and loving it.

Solved this one in the 11th hour (literally). Had the "gimmick" and just came back to figure out the 2 final pieces. I always thought this was spelled differently...but who really knows? Is there really a correct spelling? Anyway, not my favorite meta....but grateful for it anyway and appreciate the work it takes to put these out every week.
