Thanks for the pointers and advice on etiquette.Bob cruise director wrote: ↑Sat Oct 02, 2021 8:17 pmGo to Come Aboard/FAQ's Community/Solving Resources for a topic - Guidance on Hints/Nudges viewtopic.php?f=18&t=390
First good nudge requests should be made off line through a Private Message. Second if you want a nudge, tell the person to who you are requesting a nudge what you have done and where you are stuck.
From there the nudge can determine what kind of nudge you need. Sometimes a nudge is "keep going". Sometimes a nudge is "everything you did was a rabbit hole with no rabbit". Sometimes a nudge is focus on the title literally. So it depends on where the person is and the situation. Normally after giving a nudge, I ask the person to come back to me with how they are doing. Very often even a slight nudge gets the person thinking along the right track and leads to the AHA moment
On shore now thanks to @ZooAnimalsOnWheels pulling me out of said rabbit holes.
Cheers!

Glad to help. A lot of times writing down what you do brings you to that AHA moment alsoroberto wrote: ↑Sun Oct 03, 2021 1:01 pmThanks for the pointers and advice on etiquette.Bob cruise director wrote: ↑Sat Oct 02, 2021 8:17 pmGo to Come Aboard/FAQ's Community/Solving Resources for a topic - Guidance on Hints/Nudges viewtopic.php?f=18&t=390

Finally ashore with an initial nudge. My profession (librarian) actually kept me from seeing a few things that would have made it easier. That— and some dense brain matter
Channeling Molly Weasley on a good day.

I’m reduced to groveling, but only on this site. It’s so humbling. Etiquette police: I have PMed the appropriate grovelees.

Ashore. Swamped in the surf, stove in on a reef, puking sea water. I'll have a towel, a change of clothes, and someone pass the rum.
For nudges, feel free to PM me. I won't have a clue how to help you, but you might shove me ashore.

Ashore after a full weekend of staring and re-staring and re-re-staring at the grid. A text exchange with my son about being in the same rabbit hole forced me to consider it anew. And a 7-hour (!) break on Saturday to replace our kitchen garbage disposal may have helped me refocus.

Finally on shore. Thought of this mechanism in first 15 minutes but fell down in detailed execution. I think this is more a 3 star than 1.5. IMHO

Happily on shore. As usual, I made it more difficult than it was.

Sadly I'm not ashore after all. But maybe they'll accept my answer as an acceptable alternate.Bob cruise director wrote: ↑Sun Oct 03, 2021 12:00 pm Good Sunday morning muggles

We don't judge whether you are on the right shore, on a deserted island or on the back of a whale.Dplass wrote: ↑Sun Oct 03, 2021 4:10 pmSadly I'm not ashore after all. Been with Isaac since Friday. Still looking at several possible mechanisms. Or rabbit holes.
Edit: On shore with a nudge. Thanks to SReh26!
