The monthly variety cryptic from HEX is up at WSJ.
Theme this time is letter banks (all explained in the instructions).

As always clever, fun, and not too difficult.

Another enjoyable C&R cryptic variety. They always take it one step further than others. They’re the best. [But we already knew that.]

That was fun, especially figuring out the unclued entries.

Hello cryptics friends! This was a fun, if short, solve - I agree with Meg about what the best part was.

Banks A and C were my favorites. And I learned a new word at 2D, or more precisely I finally learned the meaning of a word I’ve seen before.

Yes-great puzzle. I did this yesterday afternoon and evening. I learned several new words.

Didn't finish before falling asleep last night. Almost finished this morning but had a mental block on 17A and the bank going down the right edge.
Came home from grocery shopping and saw it immediately. Actually was thinking that word for 17A, but couldn't quite put it together until looking at it just now. Why in the world it took me so long on that down, I have no idea as I did have the answer for the relevant clue.

Could you explain 17A to me? I got the answer from the crosses and the definition, but I'm totally lost on the wordplay.

Also, is the connection between the H bank and borrower a bit thinner than the rest, or am I missing something?

This took me an afternoon and a morning to finish. Not at all easy, but lots of fun.

I see the answers are available now at —

I found this easier than last week’s Turning Points! But I ended up with one letter wrong — the 2nd one in 5D. Felt like I could convince myself almost equally with D, M, or X, but finally settled on the wrong one. Oh well, I get it now.

Enjoyed it! Wasn’t really familiar with the letter banks and borrowers concept before.
