I know the answer, though, after googling. Not a cable TV person...
You're on the leaderboard at #7... does that mean there's an acceptable alternate answer?

I'm stuck on all of my metas this weekend. I was hoping to knock this one out quickly to get my groove back, but nope!

But you are listed at #7 with a correct entry, and your streak is one. Guess your wrong guess was right.

Completed first step.... then nothing.

I haven't had cable TV in eight years, so I have nothing to draw upon.

Not really sure. Kind of embarrassing: I submitted what in hindsight I think is definitely not the expected answer, and it was rejected, as were those of several other solvers. Soon after that, I *thought* I saw my name appear on the leaderboard when really (duh) I was looking at the Overall tab. I submitted another "entry" thanking Matt for taking pity, mentioning in the comment the actual answer. He must have been confused by that, but anyway my name and some others did then get added to the main board. Maybe he did decide to accept the answer as within Week 1 wiggle-room, or maybe it was the quick self-correction. Gaffney only knows.

I think there are at least three “good” answers. LOL, Matt may not concur.

Twenty-four percent incorrect submittals for a Week 1 puzzle, so far. I never thought I would see that.

The answer can't be JACK DANIELS again, I know that much.

Got it before the correction came out - but waited for the leaderboard update to be sure, given the previous comments.

With the latest update 22/85 submissions are incorrect. Strange for any week, but especially a week one.

And my streak of zero goes to……zero. Week 1, don’t overthink it, right? I used to run a cable TV company so after the first step, I saw lots of things that could be useful, but it’s week 1, so go for the obvious. Nope.

I submitted what I thought was a very plausible answer. Nope. This is a very low number on the leaderboard for a week one. Misery loves company. Hate to miss a week one. Oh well, have a great weekend everyone.

For many, the answer may be Jack Daniels

I’m rethinking my answer to 47d due to this puzzle.

Yes, and those stats include at least 3 solves that were saved from the incorrect side of the ledger.

Btw no complaints at all about Matt's leniency -- he once gave me credit, unrequested, for THRILLER as an alternate answer to the CYCLOPS puzzle. (Because, you know, "the thing with 40 eyes.")

I can think of three good answers and at least one acceptable answer at a week one level.

EDIT: It turns out I DID have it after all!! Matt said his phone freaked out when he was updating. Thanks, Matt!
