I have been on shore for a few hours while Microsoft upgrades Windows 10 on my computer

Does anyone know why it takes 3 1/2 hours for an upgrade?

Grid done, hanging with Isaac, hoping for inspiration after being MIA last week.

That took me longer than it should have, but I am safely ashore, enjoying a Laško.

My mind is more mike-ly than gaffney-esque. Sooooooooo, I'm thinking of giving up before stressing out and remaining clueless anyway.
Freida - keep at it. It is very satisfying to get this one. Good luck

"Classic" like it all makes sense and you know when you have it. This puzzle is not terribly hard. Once you see the rabbit's butt, you can grab the whole bunny.
Meg, You convinced me to give it another look and I tried a classic Gaff-nique (Gaffney technique I don't especially enjoy) and got it. I do have to say that I wonder how he comes up with these multi-step amazing ideas and how he then manages to execute them. That blows me away. And I appreciated that I did not need to google.
Freida - we had no doubt. Welcome to the tiki bar

On shore!!! after a few false starts. As always, a very clever meta.

Ahhhhhhhhhh. On the shore. Not certain whether it's more satisfying to be literally on the shore, as I was last week, or on this metaphorical shore, but I'll take either/both!

Good Friday morning fellow muggles

First a warm welcome to our two newest muggles: Emily Koczela on the WSJ comments page and memay131 here.

We have 35 who have made it to shore with the latest Matt Gaffney cleverness and two who are with Isaac on the ship.

Good luck to all in getting to shore and winning the elusive mug.

LAS. Finished the grid online quickly yesterday. Thought I saw something but couldn't make a sensible solution from it. Did the grid over in this morning's paper and followed two new rabbit holes which turned out to be abandoned. Even looked back at previous MG puzzles to see if there might be any hints for a mechanism. Set 'em up, Isaac 🍸

On shore quickly again.
I hope the water is as nice for my races at a regatta this weekend. The water was glassy this morning.

I enjoyed this one. I wouldn't be surprised if people try to guess the answer, but unlike the last 2 weeks, I don't think they will have much success.

No inspiration so far this week. Nothing clicking with the title nor the themers. Might need to wait for Saturday morning coffee...

Because 3:45 would be far too frustrating! Enjoy the shore. Grid done but grinding on the meta.

Aspirin is not a five letter word. Solved nonetheless.

Last week's postmortems were fascinating with seemingly endless connections and revelatory references. So I took another hard look at the grid and after about 48 hours, I began hearing alien voices emerging from every square, each with its own language. I am now convinced that Mike and Matt are unearthly and these metas are actually portals to parallel universes. Don't say you haven't been warned!!!

On shore. Easy puzzle, but the meta took a while and I only got it done today because I’m having to rest up from an exhausting project in my yard . A very satisfying one to work out.

I'm safely on shore. It's a hundred-percenter and a very clever construction. Now onto the MGWCC grid.
