This week’s contest answer is a five-letter word.

Super honored that my quote made Matt's write-up of last week!
On the board at #7 - just behind Hector. Fine company indeed.

Nice construction, fun meta, and full of fresh fill.

Agree with Hector's take. I found this a pretty challenging grid, with some tricky cluing to boot.

Grid is a bit too trivia-y for my taste, though agree that the content is fresh. OTOH I only needed google for one crossing so probably fine overall.

Only 20 on board when I checked in at 12:20. Yes, the grid is full of TIL entries. At 65A, I started writing in Educating Rita and got several letters in before realizing it wouldn't fit and was the wrong decade.
Also, I think Mike or maybe Patrick Berry had one very similar to this a while back.

I’ve transported. Somebody ( like @Al Sisti) needs to construct a puzzle where all the clues reference things only "older" people would know.

Isn't that just the NYT puzzle?

TIL what TIL stands for. Had to Google that one.
BMU!

After a late start (and old-person struggles with the grid similar to others), and initially not seeing anything, my second idea (which seemed dubious) hit paydirt, and I'm beamed up.

Beam me up. Grid took longer than the meta because TIL that I’m older than I think I am.

So far stuck on the meta.

Bahahaha. I will say the amount of references I throw in tutoring (I'm in my early 30s) that students have
no idea on is mind-boggling. Things from the past month or so: Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin,
I Love Lucy,
Seinfeld...
Grid was a little crunchy here and there - thought I knew what the meta was going to be, but then I didn't, but then I did. This probably leans 2.5 - clever!

Beamed up in an hour. 45 minutes to fill the grid, 15 minutes to find the meta.

Doing a little math here... when I was a kid in the 80s, I Love Lucy was on in reruns, and it was about... 30 years old. Seinfeld ran from 1989-1998, making it about... 30 years old now.
Oh. Wow.
If I had a lawn I'd tell everyone to get off it.
